Baby Haskell is on its way! We couldn't be more excited. We were trying to keep it quiet for a little bit so we could share the news with all of our family members.
We decided after Chris graduated it was time to start trying. After just several months of trying we found out we were pregnant pretty quickly. We were absolutely elated. When I was 7 weeks pregnant I started bleeding and cramping pretty badly. We soon found out that I miscarried and we were devastated. Even though I was only pregnant for a short time I had become attached as any mother would. We were told we could start trying immediately.
Over the next few weeks I kept going back to the doctor for blood work. They wanted to see my beta hCG drop which is the “pregnancy” hormone. Anything under 5 is considered not pregnant. So, finally 5 weeks after my miscarriage I dropped to a level of 2. I was ecstatic we could start trying again. I was waiting for my next period and then let the fun begin! One-two week’s later aunt flow came and I started counting! Aunt flow was incredibly light and so I started wondering…
That weekend we went to a UC football game and I couldn’t believe how tired I felt. It was like I hadn’t slept in years. Chris was working nights at the time and was super tired himself. Monday night I was grocery shopping after our major wind storm and I decided to buy a pregnancy test. I came home and I tested and lo and behold it was positive! I was absolutely dumbfounded! Chris was already sleeping so I left the test on the bathroom counter. The next morning when Chris saw it he ran into the bedroom and gave me a big kiss and said, “For real?! You are pregnant?!” “I guess so”, I said. I waited a week and called the doctor’s office. At first they were kind of surprised and said that they usually would like people to wait in between but there was nothing I could have done. I went in for a blood test and the next day the nurse called and said, “Honey! You are pregnant!” They wanted us to come in for an ultrasound to see how far along I was. We went in on October 6th and we were 6 weeks and 1 day. We saw a teeny little heartbeat and our hearts melted. We were absolutely ecstatic!
We told family and friends over the next several weeks. We knew our chances of miscarriage was still high but call it mother's intuition but I know everything is going to be ok.
We had our first official "prenatal" appointment on 11/3. Nothing exciting happened and we didn't even get offered to hear the hearbeat. Next time....
I am now 11 weeks and definitely feeling the signs of pregnancy. I am having aversions to foods I usually love like Mexican. I can only eat small amounts before I feel nauseous and I’ve had morning (rather all day) sickness for several weeks. Two more weeks and I will officially be in the 2nd trimester!
Each Sunday I will post my weekly update on my progress, pictures, and details of what is happening to the little baby inside of me. Stay tuned and we are excited you are joining us on this awesome journey!
